ReCip®, have been used to treat high strength food processing wastes, metals contaminated wastewater, explosives contaminated groundwater, coal-ash leachate, acid and alkaline mine drainage, and airport de-icing agents.

ReCip®, are designed specifically for each application and based on the desired targeted contaminate.  Contact us, 252-229-7040, for more information about your specific requirements.

ReCip AT A FOOD PROCESSING PLANT

The owner of a hush puppy processing business intended to build a plant in a town that limited the nutrient loading of wastewater entering the municipal treatment system (200 mg/l BOD or less).  The owner estimated that plant's BOD would exceed 1,500 mg/l thereby keeping the business from building a plant in that town.  A ReCip was designed and constructed to act as a pretreatment to the municipal sewer system.  In actual operation, the BOD level is consistently above 2,000 mg/l entering the ReCip and less than 100 mg/l leaving the ReCip and into the city sewer system.

The wastewater from a food processing plant will contain grease and/or oils, meals, and other food particles such as onions, peppers, etc..  The grease and/or oils should go through a separator and the larger food particles removed by a solids separator.  During the initial phases of the operations, grease, oil and all food particles entered the ReCip without any filter and the ReCip continued to meet the target nutrient reductions.  However, there was a concern that a continuation of that practice would potentially plug the ReCip plumbing.  Proper separators were introduced.

The ReCip after plants were initially placed in a cell. These plants will grow quickly as the plants are in a perfect environment for growth.

The small .25 acre site pretreats more than 20,000 gallons per day of high strength wastewater. This picture was taken just after construction.

A newer photo shows more plants taking hold in the second cell.

This site used concrete to hold the synthetic liner.
