The Corbett Swine Farm project is a demonstration/evaluation
of the ReCip system operated under
by Smithfield Foods, Premium Standard and the NC Attorney
General's initiative to find an economical and environmentally
friendly solution to the swine waste issues. Construction
was completed at the end of November 2002 and daily
operation began December 2002. Formal evaluation commenced
in February 2003.
The Corbett Farm ReCip was designed to meet or exceed
the following expectations or parameters:
- Treat the daily waste from approximately 1,900 finishing swine
- System should be simple and easy to operate
- Require minimum maintenance and supervision
- Significantly reduce odors
- Significant spray field reduction
- Be economically feasible (fixed and operating costs)
- Permitted as an "Environmentally Superior Technology"
