A ReCip was installed at the Huntsville, Alabama Botanical Garden to treat the waste from their volunteer building. The volunteer building was located on the property too far from the city sewer and on hard clay soils. A septic tank was servicing the forty or so volunteers using the facility each day. Each week, the septic tank was pumped.

The ReCip used two small 5' X 10' septic tanks for the two cells and 1/12 horsepower pumps to move the effluent between the cells. The small ReCip has the capability of treating up to 800 gallons per day. The ReCip cells were connected to the existing septic tank and effluent disposal lines were installed.

The Research site contains a research paper on the Botanical Garden system written by Dr. Leonard from the University of Alabama.

The two 5'X10' open top septic tanks are used as the two ReCip cells. The cells are filled with aggregate and the reciprocating water stays at least 6 inches from the top (no visible water). Plants can used to improve the asthetics.
